As you’ve no doubt noticed, there’s been very little activity here lately. Of course, that probably means you’ve all migrated away and there’s no one reading this to notice the lack of activity anyway.
I’ve been thinking about what, exactly, I’m doing online. About being intentional.
I’ve been thinking about these two posts by Ariana Osborne, about forgetting how to play it safe and using The Resistance rearing its ugly head to gauge what to try next, about men of letters, about Alan Moore’s Dodgem Logic, about how after the publication of Shivering Sands Warren Ellis is actually writing blog posts toward its sequel Knock John, about Kieron Gillen’s assertion in the backmatter of Phonogram #6 that blogs have replaced mini-comics and about the sheer amount of effort it took for me to make a 50-page mini-comic/zine + CD for a number of people as a Christmas present (and therefore how careful I was about what was included) versus how little effort it takes me to publish a blog post (and therefore how I’m likely to throw any ol’ stray thought or fancy up there).
If someone were to collect my various internet postings into a single place, whether voluntarily like Ellis or for posterity like Lewis, how would they read? Is there actually anything interesting in all the noise? How could one tell?
I tend to be selective about the posts I devote my time to reading and thinking about, even from some of my favorite internet authors. Would I even read my own blog if I didn’t know me?
So I’ve deleted my fossilized MySpace and ComicSpace accounts and begun the process of simplifying this blog’s design.
I realize I want to write fewer posts, but deeper posts. 1-4 thinkpieces a month. “Thinkpieces” because I can guarantee I’ll be putting real thought into them, but not so formally that you might call them “essays” or whatever the bloggy equivalent is. Although tomorrow’s post grew completely out of hand almost entirely of it’s own volition as everything I’ve read in the past year suddenly seemed to be connected in one giant thought.
So first post of the new direction tomorrow. It’s already composed and scheduled.
There will still be the occasional “Now In Stores”/”Now Available For Order” posts regarding my comics and books, but even those will be combined to no more than once a week on Wednesdays.
To summarize: less posts. More interesting. Intentional.
Once you’ve read tomorrow’s post let me know what you think.

Honestly, this isn’t meant as a slam, but this site is so ugly with such a slapped-together look, and the writing is so random and chaotically pieced together, I’m still not convinced this isn’t a bot-created key-word sporge instead of a real blog.
I’m coming from a link where the old Web site used to be, and even if this is real, I’m certainly never coming back.
I love how, when people insult you, they always preface it with “no offense” or some variation thereof first. As if that excuses them from needing to use polite or diplomatic language in what follows.
“This isn’t meant as a slam, but…SLAM!”
And, of course, they never share their real name.
Alas. Each to his own. Here’s hoping you find what you’re looking for.
I’m enjoying the deeper posts, because … wow. So much to think about.
(I also came here because of Bruce Sterling …)
Thanks, Luke.
Later this week I should be out from under some deadlines and able to do a little more intentional blogging here. In the meantime, I post random shiny objects/ex materia on the Tumblr.
